The Gold Standard award was given in recognition that the Gate City’s Water Treatment Plant has met or exceeded minimum standards for filtration, clarity, and the filter backwash process. The Gold Standard award recognizes those treatment plants that produce water that is at least three times cleaner than required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and those plants that demonstrate excellence in their day-to-day operations.
The award was presented April 20, 2016, at the Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project, Inc. Water is Life 2016 Conference in Roanoke, Virginia.
